AlphaVAT 4.6

Welcome to the latest release of AlphaVAT which includes, essential infrastructure upgrades, usability enhancements, and minor bug fixes.

Release overview

Infrastructure Upgrades (.NET6)

The .NET framework is a software platform used to build and run applications. Updating the version of the .NET framework provides multiple benefits, including:

  • Improved performance
  • Increased security
  • Better compatibility
  • Enhanced features

As an essential part of any product's lifecycle, we have undertaken this work in AlphaVAT to ensure robust and supported foundations.

Authentication: BTA Credential Validation

To authorise AlphaVAT to access the Business Tax Account (BTA), you must log in via the Government Gateway using the corresponding credentials. To improve the usability of the product, error handling has been introduced to clearly state if non-matching credentials are used.

HMRC: Period Key Updates

Period keys are an ID code for an obligation period which is set by HMRC. Such keys were previously believed to be fixed and therefore were statically stored within the application However, HMRC began changing period keys from numeric to alphanumeric which caused period data to appear missing within AlphaVAT.

To address this mismatch, we have extended the refresh logic to ensure that the latest period key is synchronised within the application.
